Description

Hi there!

Yet another scenery painting.
It shows a rather unusual place for a city.

Starting from an initial sketch I finally painted a vast amount of details. arrgh ...
Parts of the city, a few rocks, trees and ice surfaces are photomanipulated textures.
I'd say 90% painted, 10% photomanipulation ...

Here some tech specs:

- 4700 x 2000 px width and height.
- 836 MB painting data.
- My right wrist nearly fell off while painting the details.
- Adobe Photoshop and Painter 8 via Wacom Intuos2 (as usual )

After spending 50 hours (spread over several days) I consider this painting as finished.
Critiques and comments are very welcome.

Daniel

Wow very nice landscape! You are realy very good in landscapes.
My only crit is that I think there is too much detail on the mountains and therefore they blend with the city.
But otherwise it's very crisp

wondeful details in full version, sun light is really good, great work +9

Wow! That was the first thing I thought. That's a truely amazing sight, although I agree that the mountains do blend a little bit with the city, but that's not a bit problem by far - in fact, makes one think about the odd similarities between the corrugation and urbanization in this image. When looking at the initial sketch, I thought it would make a cool animation to finish the bare landscape to the same size as the finished one, and then create a transition between the images to make it look as if the city was growing or spreading all over the place.

it's much too dense with detail, you need not bother to detail areas that are shadowy or off focus. So much details evenly everywhere makes the image dull, boring and busy.

The city part with bridges looks good in full version

I really like the city, the colours, the lighting, the water, but I dont like to mountains in the front, too sharp, too detailed, I cant really tell what bugs me the most about them.

But everything else is fantastic as usual.

Good.

I've been keeping an eye on your work since you joined GFX, and I'm consistently impressed. You pictures are detailed, have plenty of texture and atmosphere, and in general are just plain eyecandy. Well done

The mountains, while they do have a lot of great texture and detailed, they seem a little featureless. I think that may be what bothers some people? Perhaps try to add things- trees, structures, whatever- to the mountains to set them apart from one another. Even though the mountains are in the same general area, it doesn't mean that their terrain will be identical.

Keep up the spectacular work. You're on my favourite artists list ;) Lovely colours, concept and detail. Looking forward to your next picture!

The city, lighting, water, nearby mountains and sky are breathtaking! Wow!
It's only the mountains in the far distance that break the illusion of a huge scene to me. They are a bit too sharp and detailed I think.
Nevertheless, awesome work, Daniel!
